Waikiki
Waikiki, Honolulu, HI 96815, USA
The hotel is conveniently located right behind the stage for the free hula show on Waikiki Beach. It is easy to access the beach; you only need to cross the two-lane road in front of the hotel.
This family-friendly resort features excellent access right in front of Waikiki Beach and attractive panoramic ocean views from the high-floor rooms.
Hyatt Regency Waikiki is a large resort located directly across from Waikiki Beach, offering excellent accessibility. The property consists of two towers connected by a ground-floor shopping arcade, placing guests right in the heart of the vibrant Waikiki scene. While the facilities show their age and the elevators can get crowded, the prime location compensates for these drawbacks. From high-floor rooms, you get panoramic views ranging from early morning surfers to the Waikiki nightscape. The lounge breakfast included miso soup and rice, which was a helpful touch, and the mango-coconut scented amenities added a nice local Hawaiian feel.
If this is your first trip to Hawaii, the Ocean Front Suite is worth considering. I received an upgrade to an Ocean Front One Bedroom Suite as a World of Hyatt Globalist benefit, and the view of Waikiki Beach from the 31st floor was impressive. From the room, I could watch surfers paddling at sunrise and see rainbows appearing after the rain. The suite features a spacious living room and dining area, which was ideal for bringing back takeout from nearby food trucks to enjoy while looking at the ocean. The living room includes a separate guest powder room, which was convenient for shared occupancy. While there is no bathtub, the shower area is spacious, and the mango-coconut scented amenities added to the Hawaiian resort atmosphere.
The lounge, accessed via Globalist benefits, provided breakfast, light refreshments during the day, and cakes and desserts in the evening.
Alcohol is not served during happy hour, but the lounge was a comfortable place to relax in the cool indoors after outdoor activities.
The lounge breakfast is a buffet featuring standard items such as egg dishes, fruit, salads, bakery items, and cereal. Miso soup and rice are also available, making it suitable for Asian travelers or families with children.
There is an outdoor pool facing Waikiki Beach. Since most guests prefer the beach, the pool area is relatively quiet. It is a good option if you want to enjoy the ocean atmosphere without dealing with salt water.
Unlike typical Regency properties, this hotel features a laundry room with washers and dryers available for guest use, which is helpful given its beachside location.
A communal microwave is located on the same floor as the laundry room for guest convenience.
The hotel has a lively atmosphere thanks to its location right in front of Waikiki Beach. During holidays like graduation season or Memorial Day, elevator wait times can be long, and the facilities show some signs of age.
I used complimentary valet parking as a Globalist benefit on a points stay. Due to the nature of the hotel, it operates primarily with valet rather than self-parking; wait times for vehicle retrieval can be long during meal times or check-in, so it is best to request your car in advance.
Other fees: I received a waiver for the resort fee as a Globalist benefit.
Hyatt Regency Waikiki is divided into two towers: the Diamond Head Tower and the Ewa Tower. High-floor rooms in the Diamond Head Tower are known for their direct oceanfront views of Waikiki Beach, while the Ewa Tower is famous for its western sunset views. I recommend requesting a high-floor room in the Diamond Head Tower if possible.
