This was the accommodation I was most looking forward to during my Hawaii trip. While it required a significant amount of points due to its high category rating, the stay was satisfying. The Andaz Maui has an atmosphere well-suited for couples seeking a quiet getaway or families with young children. Located on the west coast of Maui, it is a great spot for watching the sunset, and the resort maintains a calm and relaxed vibe throughout. The service from the staff, including Wonji, was kind and attentive. The lotus-lined entrance and the cascading four-tier infinity pool are signature features of the Andaz Maui.

I was upgraded to a King Bed Ocean View room. While not a suite, the view overlooking the Pacific Ocean was impressive. The room offered a clear view of the four-tiered pool and the luau stage, which created a great atmosphere at sunset. I enjoyed the in-room sofa and the terrace overlooking the pool and ocean; lying in bed while looking out at the sky and palm trees was a memorable experience. The layout is unique, with the bathroom and closet located in the hallway, and the bathroom space is very spacious. While the shower area is generous, the layout requires walking a few steps to reach the shampoo or body wash from the shower, which can feel a bit awkward.

During my May 2025 stay, the King Bed Ocean View room offered views of the Maui landscape from the terrace. The room included wooden furniture and a sofa area, making it functional for both relaxing and working.

Egg dishes are ordered directly from a server at the table, while other items are available at the buffet. The menu rotates slightly each day, preventing it from becoming repetitive, and the restaurant's view of the Pacific Ocean makes for a pleasant breakfast. However, small birds frequently entering the restaurant can be a bit of a nuisance.

Dining costs within the resort are generally high. The valet parking area is often congested during meal times, suggesting many guests face similar challenges. I dined at Morimoto; the food was good, but the service speed was somewhat slow. It wasn't boring as I could watch the luau performance happening nearby while waiting, but the service delays did make the atmosphere at surrounding tables feel a bit tense. If you are considering value, dining in the nearby town outside the resort is an option.

Before You Book

Wailea is an upscale resort area located on the southwest coast of Maui, home to Andaz Maui and several other resorts. In the evenings, a paid luau performance takes place against the ocean backdrop, adding to the resort's atmosphere. The performance area is close to the outdoor seating at Morimoto, allowing guests to enjoy the show while dining. However, the performance lasts nearly 3 hours, which can feel quite long. Even considering it is a traditional performance, it continues until after you finish dinner and return to your room, so many guests may find it feels lengthy.

It is rare to find a hotel that allows you to reach the summit of Haleakalā National Park in under an hour. While many guests usually face the hassle of driving early in the morning to catch the sunrise, the location of Andaz Maui made the trip to the national park much more relaxed. Although I failed to secure a sunrise reservation, I was satisfied with the accessibility during my stay.

Andaz Maui is located near Lahaina, a town historically known for its whaling past. While it was once a popular destination for guests, the aftermath of the major wildfire from two years ago is still visible throughout the area. The iconic giant banyan tree is gone, and the once-vibrant local town is difficult to recognize. Due to traffic conditions on Maui and limitations in recovery infrastructure, it appears that rebuilding the town will take a significant amount of time. Seeing the house foundations left with only stone steps is sobering, but watching a rainbow appear over the town, I hope it regains its former vitality soon.
