Hyatt House Scottsdale/Old Town Review

During a three-month stay at Hyatt House Scottsdale/Old Town, I experienced the practical benefits of the hotel's extended-stay design. The layout—featuring a separate kitchen, living area, and bedroom—was well-suited for maintaining a daily routine. The two-bedroom suite, in particular, offers the comfort of a small apartment, complete with private bedrooms, bathrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen, making it an excellent choice for families or golf groups.

Although I had to change rooms twice due to signs of wear in the facilities, the staff's response was impressive. Their professional approach—communicating transparently and working to minimize disruption—more than made up for the property's shortcomings. In an extended-stay environment, the ability to resolve issues effectively is often more important than perfection, and this property serves as a reliable temporary home.

I stayed in a One-Bedroom Suite for about three months. While standard rooms here force you to eat and work right next to the bed, this suite allowed me to close the bedroom door and use the living room as a separate, functional space. The kitchen is equipped with basic appliances, including an electric range, oven, microwave, and coffee maker, making it well-suited for preparing breakfast or relaxing. The bedroom features a calm aesthetic with dark blue accent walls and a wooden headboard, and the bathroom shower stall includes safety grab bars and a bench—a thoughtful touch. With the L-shaped sofa and desk in the living room, I was able to maintain a routine that felt more like living in a small apartment than a hotel room.

The complimentary breakfast was a practical perk for a long-term stay. While the menu doesn't change daily, items like meats (ham and bacon) and carbohydrates (waffles, pancakes, French toast) rotate on a three-day cycle, which helped prevent monotony. I was particularly impressed by the juice selection compared to other Hyatt House locations. While the offerings are simple—consisting of items like hard-boiled eggs, cheese, and salsa—everything was well-maintained, and being able to grab a meal on busy mornings was a major advantage.

The laundry room is equipped with several LG washers and dryers, which were consistently clean and convenient. You can pay for and monitor the status of the machines via the 'OneTapAway' app; there was even a promotion for a free first wash upon installing the app, which was a nice bonus for a long-term guest.

There is an outdoor pool, a hot tub, and a 24-hour StayFit fitness center. The gym is equipped with basic cardio and weight equipment, including ellipticals, treadmills, and Peloton bikes, which is sufficient for a standard workout routine. Additionally, the courtyard features grills and outdoor seating, which is a pleasant spot to spend a relaxing evening.

During my three-month stay, I had to change rooms twice, but the staff handled it professionally. When issues with aging plumbing and air conditioning arose, the team was transparent about the situation and worked to minimize the inconvenience. While the aging facility is a clear drawback, the staff’s accountability and prompt, sincere responses ensured I was never left with a negative impression of the service.

Given the intense summer sun in Scottsdale, parking is a factor to consider. Most spaces are outdoors, which causes vehicle interiors to heat up rapidly and exposes the car body and glass to constant, harsh UV rays. During my stay, a small existing chip in my windshield expanded into a significant crack. While this won't happen to every vehicle, if your windshield has any minor damage, extreme temperature fluctuations can cause it to spread. If you are visiting between June and August, I highly recommend bringing a windshield shade and checking your glass beforehand.

This hotel is optimized for stays of a week or longer. The One-Bedroom Suite perfectly separates the bedroom from the living area, and the Two-Bedroom Suites function essentially like small apartments, making them ideal for families or groups on golf trips. The location in the heart of Old Town is a major draw, allowing for easy evening walks to nearby restaurants and bars. Of course, there are minor inconveniences that only become apparent during a long-term stay, such as the kitchen hood performance, the impact of hard water on the dishwasher, and the heat in the outdoor parking lot. However, thanks to the staff's transparent communication and the practical room layout, I felt more at home than in a typical hotel.
