Downtown Los Angeles

The hotel features a distinct atmosphere and artistic flair within a historic building, offering convenient access to downtown LA's major landmarks and stadiums.
Hotel Figueroa is a historic building that opened in 1926 as a women-only hotel and is now operated under Hyatt's The Unbound Collection brand. Located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, it offers a distinct atmosphere that sets it apart from typical business hotels. The art installations throughout the property and the unique layout make it feel like staying in a small gallery, with the charm of the vintage architecture well-preserved. It is better suited for travelers who appreciate the history and character of a building over those looking for a modern hotel with state-of-the-art facilities. It is particularly close to the Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center), so the surrounding streets are quite lively on days when there are Lakers games or major concerts.
Compared to modern large-scale hotels, the rooms are generally compact. Each room has a unique layout; the room I stayed in focused primarily on the bedroom and bathroom, leaving little space to fully open a suitcase. I was upgraded to a Junior Suite for one night, but it was similar in size to a standard room at a typical Hyatt Regency or Grand Hyatt. However, unlike uniform chain hotels, each room has a distinct structure and atmosphere, which is a unique charm of Hotel Figueroa.
Hotel Figueroa does not operate a Regency Club Lounge or a dedicated Globalist lounge. Instead, Globalist breakfast is provided at Café Fig on the ground floor. This was the most satisfying part of my stay; unlike a typical hotel breakfast buffet, the a la carte ordering system allowed for variety even during a long stay. The food quality is high, and the coffee is particularly impressive. The café is popular with local office workers and digital nomads, so there can be a wait during peak morning hours, but the generous operating hours make it convenient for a late breakfast.
There is an outdoor pool in the center of the hotel, and the space around the pool is decorated with the artistic sensibility unique to Hotel Figueroa.
The poolside bar was not in operation during my visit, but when open, it serves as a space where you can enjoy a resort-like atmosphere. While it is not a large-scale resort hotel, the advantage is being able to enjoy a relatively relaxed outdoor space in the middle of the city.
LA was colder than expected during the year-end period, and the heating in my room did not work. When I contacted the front desk, they immediately offered a room change. However, there were multiple rooms with heating issues, which led to the inconvenience of having to move rooms several times in the middle of the night. When I reported this at checkout, the hotel provided appropriate compensation, including a refund of the points used for the stay.
I received a waiver for valet parking fees as a Globalist benefit on a points stay. Given the location in Downtown Los Angeles, parking costs are relatively high. The hotel operates primarily via valet; I recommend allowing extra time when using a vehicle, as traffic in the area increases significantly on days with Lakers games or large events nearby.
Late checkout was honored on this stay: 4 PM
Hotel Figueroa is better suited for travelers who value the atmosphere and character of a historic building over a modern luxury hotel. The rooms are generally small, so space may be limited if you have large suitcases or a lot of luggage. Additionally, the area around the hotel becomes very lively on days with Lakers games or major events. While it is relatively safe and pleasant during the day, the area can feel a bit rough late at night, typical of downtown, so caution is advised when moving around.
