This Stay at a Glance

Opened in 1926 as a women-only hotel, the historic Hotel Figueroa now operates under Hyatt’s The Unbound Collection. Located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, it offers a distinct atmosphere that sets it apart from standard business hotels. With art installations throughout the property and unique spatial layouts, the hotel feels more like a small gallery, successfully preserving the charm of its vintage architecture. It is best suited for travelers who prioritize history and character over modern, state-of-the-art facilities. Its proximity to Crypto.com Arena makes the surrounding area particularly vibrant on game days and during major concerts.

Room Upgrade Experience

Room on this stayJunior Suite

Rooms are generally compact compared to modern, large-scale hotels. Each room features a unique layout; my room prioritized the bedroom and bathroom, leaving little floor space to fully open large suitcases. While I received a one-day upgrade to a Junior Suite, it was similar in size to a standard room at a typical Hyatt Regency or Grand Hyatt. That said, the distinct layout and atmosphere of each room offer a unique charm characteristic of Hotel Figueroa that you won't find in standardized chain hotels.

During my year-end trip in 2024, the Junior Suite at Hotel Figueroa offered a calm and unique atmosphere in downtown Los Angeles, blending the Unbound Collection's signature artistic interior with the room's arched architecture.

The Junior Suite at Hotel Figueroa features a lattice-style sliding door between the bedroom and bathroom, which provided a sense of openness while keeping the spaces distinct during my stay in Los Angeles at the end of 2024.

The desk area in the Junior Suite at Hotel Figueroa during my year-end trip in 2024. It was well-equipped with a coffee machine and mini-fridge, making it convenient for light work or relaxing in the room.
During my stay in a Figueroa Junior Suite, I experienced discomfort due to a heater malfunction that caused the room temperature to drop. Despite it being the middle of the night, the staff worked diligently to move me to a warmer room, which resolved the issue.

Breakfast Experience

Hotel Figueroa does not have a Regency Club or Globalist lounge. Instead, Globalist breakfast is served at Café Fig on the ground floor. This was the highlight of my stay; unlike a standard hotel buffet, the a la carte menu provided plenty of variety for a longer visit. The food quality is high, and the coffee is particularly impressive. The café is popular with local office workers and digital nomads, so expect a wait during peak morning hours, though the generous operating hours make it easy to enjoy a late breakfast without feeling rushed.

Pools & Facilities Experience

Outdoor pool

There is an outdoor pool in the center of the hotel, and the surrounding space is decorated with the artistic sensibility unique to Hotel Figueroa.

The poolside bar was closed during my visit, but when open, it offers a resort-like atmosphere alongside the pool. While it is not a large-scale resort, it is a nice advantage to have a relatively relaxed outdoor space in the middle of the city.

Service Impressions

Los Angeles was colder than expected during the year-end period, and when the heating in my room failed, the front desk moved me to a new room immediately. Unfortunately, several rooms had heating issues, which led to the inconvenience of having to move multiple times in the middle of the night. When I reported this at checkout, the hotel provided appropriate compensation, including a refund of the points used for the stay.

Resort Fee & Parking Check

As a Globalist, I received a waiver for valet parking fees on my points-redemption stay. Parking costs are relatively high, which is expected for downtown Los Angeles. The hotel relies primarily on valet service; I recommend allowing extra time if you are traveling by car on days with Lakers games or major events nearby, as traffic congestion can be significant.

Before You Book

Hotel Figueroa is better suited for travelers who value the character of a historic building over the amenities of a modern luxury hotel. Rooms are generally small, so space may be tight if you are traveling with large suitcases. Additionally, the area around the hotel becomes very lively during Lakers games or major events. While the neighborhood is relatively safe and pleasant during the day, it can feel a bit rough late at night—typical for downtown—so exercise caution when walking around.
