With its theme park shuttles and lagoon-style pool, this resort is well-suited for families looking to combine Orlando sightseeing with a relaxed vacation.
Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort is a large-scale property well-suited for travelers looking to balance Orlando theme park visits with resort relaxation. If you aren't committed to staying at a Disney-owned property, this resort serves as an excellent alternative for those who prefer a more relaxed pace over the 'rope drop' rush. While it offers convenient access to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, its primary advantage is the ability to retreat from the intensity of the parks to a much more spacious and comfortable resort environment.
The rooms were sufficiently comfortable for resting after long days of walking in the parks. The lagoon-style pool, which features 12 waterfalls and a waterslide, along with the lakeside walking trails, provides plenty to do without ever leaving the property. It is a balanced choice for those who want to manage the fatigue of an Orlando trip by mixing theme park days with downtime at the resort.
The Standard King room was spacious and well-maintained. Large floor-to-ceiling windows connected to the balcony provided excellent natural light, and the sofa and table area next to the bed offered a comfortable space to relax after a long day at the theme parks. At night, the balcony offered views of the Orlando skyline and hot air balloons in the distance, capturing the relaxed atmosphere of the resort.
Breakfast is served in a typical large-resort style with a wide variety of options to suit different tastes. The menu included main dishes like Eggs Benedict as well as fresh fruit bowls, making it a solid way to fuel up before heading to the theme parks. The dining area is bright and open, allowing for a leisurely morning overlooking the gardens.
After returning from Disney World, I had the fish tacos at the hotel restaurant, which were the highlight of my dining experience. The balance of textures and the sauce were excellent, offering a proper meal that felt like a step up from typical theme park food. The menu featured a variety of main dishes priced between $12 and $20, providing plenty of choices.
The large lagoon-style pool, designed with 12 waterfalls and rock formations, feels more like a small water park than a standard hotel pool. At night, the area is illuminated, creating a calm atmosphere for walking or relaxing. Spending time at the poolside bar, 'On the Rocks,' with a cocktail while enjoying the Florida sun was a highlight.
The resort is well-equipped with a hot tub, walking paths, and various activity facilities, making it easy to spend a relaxing day on-site even if you aren't visiting the theme parks.
The large lagoon-style pool with its waterslide was particularly popular with families. The resort offers a nature-friendly environment, and it was fun to observe the ibises roaming freely around the pool area.
The shores of Lake Windsong, located at the heart of the resort, feature a sandy beach that gives the property a beach-resort feel. Various water activity facilities, such as kayaks, are available, making it a great spot for a stroll or a relaxing day when you don't have Disney plans.
There is a 9-hole golf course on-site for a casual round. A parrot named 'Merlot' lives in the lobby, adding a bit of charm to the arrival and departure experience.
Shuttles to Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, and Disney Springs are available, which made getting around convenient without worrying about theme park parking. Parking is available for a fee, with both self-parking and valet options.
Other fees: The resort fee ($50) covers the Disney and Universal Orlando shuttles as well as various resort activities. Guests 21 and older are offered a complimentary glass of champagne at check-in, which helped set a vacation mood right from the start.

It offers reasonable proximity to Disney World while providing much more expansive resort facilities. It is a well-balanced choice in the Orlando area if you want to combine theme park visits with resort relaxation.

On days without a Disney World itinerary, we visited Disney Springs. It is packed with a variety of shops and restaurants, making it a great spot to enjoy the unique Disney atmosphere at a more relaxed pace. It was a nice change of pace, as we didn't have to spend the entire day walking like we would at the theme parks.
A vibrant resort on Kāʻanapali Beach, particularly recommended for families due to its diverse pool options and direct beach access.
A serene adobe-style resort on the Santa Ana Pueblo, ideal for families and couples seeking open mountain views and a relaxing getaway.
This family-friendly resort features excellent access right in front of Waikiki Beach and attractive panoramic ocean views from the high-floor rooms.
