Valletta
Valletta, Malta
A modern urban hotel in the center of St. Julian’s with convenient access to major attractions, featuring both rooftop and indoor swimming pools.
The Hyatt Regency Malta is a reliable urban hotel that serves as a solid base for first-time visitors. Located in the heart of St. Julian’s, it offers easy access to local restaurants, cafes, and shops, along with convenient connections to major tourist destinations like Valletta. Rather than the grandeur of a large resort, the property stands out for its clean, modern aesthetic and efficient layout—typical of a global chain—providing a level of comfort that exceeds expectations in an unfamiliar destination.
During my stay, I particularly appreciated the variety of nearby Asian restaurants and Korean food delivery options, which provided a welcome sense of familiarity during a long European trip. As a Globalist member, I enjoyed a more relaxed experience thanks to benefits like room upgrades, Regency Club lounge access, and complimentary parking. With both a rooftop pool and an indoor pool, the hotel hits all the marks for a functional urban property and serves as an excellent base camp for exploring Malta.
As a Globalist benefit, I was upgraded to a Junior Suite with a king bed and a balcony overlooking the pjazza. The view of the historic stone buildings, the church, and the quiet square offered a distinct local charm. While not a sea view, sitting on the balcony and watching the daily life of the square was incredibly relaxing. The subtle Acqua di Parma scent throughout the room was a nice touch, and the suite was impeccably clean and well-maintained.
The Regency Club is tucked away in the meeting room area, which can be tricky to find at first. The space isn't large or flashy, but it was quiet and cozy throughout my stay. It provided an ideal environment to unwind or catch up on work after returning from the crowded tourist spots, making the lounge access feel like a genuine Globalist perk.
The happy hour is designed for a relaxing end to the day with light snacks and drinks rather than a full dinner replacement. The spread includes neatly prepared salmon, fresh vegetables, and simple desserts, alongside a standard spirit selection like Johnnie Walker Black Label and Tanqueray. It is a perfect setup for a quiet cocktail when you want to avoid the hassle of finding a restaurant in the evening.
Breakfast is served at the hotel restaurant, Seed, offering a reliable mix of buffet options and a la carte items like Eggs Benedict and avocado toast. It isn't a high-end gastronomic experience, but it is practical, offering a calm start to the day with fresh produce, bakery items, and hearty made-to-order dishes. Having a comfortable meal at the hotel before heading out significantly improved my overall stay.
The rooftop pool offers a great sense of openness, with views of the St. Julian’s cityscape and the Mediterranean horizon visible over the glass railing. I didn't use it during my winter stay, but it is clearly a highlight for enjoying the Maltese sun and city views during warmer months.
This was a perfect space to relieve travel fatigue during my winter stay. I appreciated the quiet atmosphere, which allowed for a leisurely swim.
The hotel features a modern, clean interior with facilities efficiently laid out for an urban property. The classic view of St. Augustine's Church through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the lobby lounge is particularly impressive, contrasting nicely with the modern decor. With many restaurants within walking distance, the location is very convenient, even for those unfamiliar with the area.
Complimentary parking is provided for hotel guests.
