A vibrant Kāʻanapali Beach resort; highly recommended for families thanks to its varied pool options and direct beach access.
Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa is a sprawling property on Kāʻanapali Beach that draws a steady stream of families. While the more subdued Andaz Maui is better suited for couples, the Hyatt Regency Maui offers a lively atmosphere defined by its expansive pool complex, diverse amenities, and animal encounter programs. The resort sits along a beach path connecting to neighboring properties like the Westin and Marriott, making it ideal for walking, and its west-coast position offers prime views of the Maui sunset. The property shares its pool and facilities with the adjacent Hyatt Vacation Club; during our stay, the high number of families with children made for a consistently energetic environment.
We stayed in a One King Bed View room. The layout offered views of the pool and a partial ocean view, capturing the open, airy atmosphere characteristic of Hawaii. The room key was provided as a wristband, which was incredibly convenient for a resort environment where we frequently moved between the pool and the beach. The small sofa area was perfect for evening snacks or relaxing. I was impressed by the reusable aluminum water bottles provided, and the sunset over Maui from the room was a highlight.
The hotel operates a club lounge exclusively for Globalist members. While the space isn't particularly flashy, it maintains a quiet, calm atmosphere, making it ideal for relaxing or catching up on light work during a family trip. The food selection isn't extensive, but the snacks available throughout the day were convenient for a quick bite before or after heading to the pool. It was especially useful for grabbing drinks and light refreshments when traveling with children.
Alcoholic beverages are not served during happy hour, but the lounge provides items like dumplings, cheese, and salads for a light meal.
During dessert hour, we were able to sample several types of cakes.
Breakfast is served in the club lounge from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM. While the variety is limited, it includes essentials like fruit, bread, and hot dishes. The setup is efficient if you're planning to head straight to the pool or beach afterward.
The biggest advantage of Hyatt Regency Maui is its diverse pool facilities. You can essentially use three areas: the two pools within the resort and the adjacent Hyatt Vacation Club pool. There is a separate adults-only pool, and the resort is popular with families due to its waterslide and child-friendly amenities.
African penguins and parrots live on the resort grounds. You can watch the penguin feeding program in the morning, and you may even encounter the penguins while walking around the property. There is also a parrot exhibit, but the birds are quite active, so it is recommended to heed the warning signs if visiting with young children.
Other fees: As a Globalist member, I utilized the all-day happy hour benefit at the poolside bar.
Late checkout was honored on this stay: 4 PM
Hyatt Regency Maui is located right on the beach, though conditions change significantly based on the time of year and tides. As of late May, the beach narrowed considerably by sunset, with water reaching near the resort gardens in some areas. It is fine for a stroll, but parents should exercise caution if young children are playing in the water for long periods. The pool facilities are excellent, making this a great choice for families who prefer resort pools over the ocean. With the club lounge, extensive pool complex, and penguin viewing program, it is a highly satisfying resort for families traveling with children.
