This Stay at a Glance

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa is a large resort located on Kāʻanapali Beach that frequently hosts families. While the Andaz Maui offers a quieter atmosphere better suited for couples, the Hyatt Regency Maui features a more vibrant environment with various pools, amenities, and animal experience programs. The resort is situated along a beach path connecting to other properties like the Westin and Marriott, making it convenient for walks, and its location on the west coast provides excellent views of Maui’s sunsets. The property shares pool and resort facilities with the adjacent Hyatt Vacation Club, and during my stay, the presence of many families with children contributed to an overall lively atmosphere.

Room Upgrade Experience

I stayed in a One King Bed View room. The layout offered views of the pool and a partial ocean view, which provided a sense of the open, airy atmosphere typical of Hawaii. The room key was provided as a wristband, which was very convenient for a resort environment where I frequently moved between the pool and the beach. The small sofa area in the room was suitable for evening snacks or relaxing. I was impressed by the reusable aluminum water bottles provided, and the sunset view of Maui from the room was memorable.

A club lounge is available exclusively for Globalist members. While the space is not particularly flashy, it maintains a relatively quiet and calm atmosphere, making it suitable for resting or getting some light work done during a family trip. Although the variety of food is not extensive, food is available from morning until evening, which was convenient for stopping by before or after pool time or outings. It was especially useful for accessing drinks and light snacks frequently when traveling with children.

Alcohol is not served during happy hour, but the menu includes items like dumplings, cheese, and salads that are sufficient for a light meal.

During dessert hour, I was able to try several types of cakes.

Breakfast Experience

Breakfast is served in the club lounge from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM. While the variety of food is not very extensive, it includes the basic breakfast essentials such as fruit, bread, and hot dishes. For a schedule involving activities between the resort and the beach, the setup is efficient for heading straight to the pool or beach after breakfast.

Pools & Facilities Experience

The biggest advantage of Hyatt Regency Maui is its diverse pool facilities. You can effectively use three areas: the two pools within the resort and the adjacent Hyatt Vacation Club pool. There is a separate adults-only pool, and the resort is popular with families due to its waterslide and child-friendly facilities.

African penguins and parrots live on the resort grounds. You can watch the penguin feeding program in the morning, and you may even encounter penguins while walking around the resort. There is also a parrot exhibit; however, the birds are quite strong, so it is recommended to carefully check the signage if visiting with young children.

Before You Book

Hyatt Regency Maui is located directly on the beach, but conditions vary significantly depending on the time of year and tidal changes. As of late May, the beach narrowed considerably around sunset, with water reaching near the resort gardens in some sections. While it is fine for a light stroll, the environment requires caution for young children playing in the water for extended periods. On the other hand, the pool facilities are well-equipped, making the resort a better fit for families who prefer pools over the ocean. Given the club lounge, diverse pool facilities, and penguin viewing program, the resort is well-suited for guests traveling with children.
