If you’re expecting a typical Hyatt experience at Wandering Buffalo, you might be surprised. As part of the Mr & Mrs Smith collection, the property allows for World of Hyatt point redemptions and elite night credits, but it operates independently and does not offer standard Globalist benefits. We stayed for one night in late August 2026, following a Yellowstone National Park itinerary before heading to Bozeman. The hotel prioritizes a unique, locally inspired Montana aesthetic over Hyatt’s standardized service model.

Inside, rough stone walls, a fireplace, leather sofas, and taxidermy create the cozy feel of a modern mountain lodge. While you shouldn't expect Globalist perks like complimentary breakfast, room upgrades, or waived parking fees, it’s an excellent spot to unwind after the rigors of a Yellowstone trip and enjoy the relaxed pace of downtown Bozeman. If you view it as a distinct lodging experience accessible through World of Hyatt rather than a direct substitute for a traditional Hyatt, it’s a highly satisfying choice.

We were assigned a standard king room without an upgrade, but it provided plenty of space to recover after long days of driving and hiking around Yellowstone. The design balances modern convenience with a Montana mountain lodge aesthetic; details like the buffalo-patterned headboard, wood furniture, and geometric carpet add local character and a restful feel. The open-closet layout made it easy to unpack and organize our gear, and the Nespresso station was a welcome morning staple. The bathroom is functional, featuring an arched mirror and a clean, white-toned shower stall stocked with LATHER bulk dispensers.

The hotel is modest in size, with facilities designed to lean into the mountain lodge atmosphere. The lobby is the standout, featuring rough stone walls, a fireplace, leather sofas, and taxidermy decor that create a cozy vibe. The wellness studio is well-equipped with essentials like a rowing machine, treadmill, exercise balls, and resistance bands; it also includes a well-maintained dry sauna, perfect for unwinding after outdoor activities. Outside, there is a small garden and a communal fire pit facing Main Street, along with complimentary bicycles for guest use. Downtown Bozeman is flat, making it easy to explore by bike when the weather is nice. Rather than the extensive amenities of a large resort, the property’s relaxed, lodge-like atmosphere is its primary draw.

As a Mr & Mrs Smith participating property, the Wandering Buffalo does not offer the complimentary parking benefit typically extended to Globalists at Hyatt hotels. Since a vehicle is essential for road trips in Montana or visiting Yellowstone, be sure to factor in the $20-per-night parking fee when booking.
