A large resort featuring spacious suites and free parking away from the busy Strip, ideal for travelers who prefer a quieter home base.
Located just west of the Las Vegas Strip, the Rio Las Vegas is a sprawling resort that made waves when it opened in 1990 for its then-rare all-suite concept. The property boasts expansive grounds and generous room sizes, maintaining a classic, grand atmosphere that feels distinct from the city's more modern luxury resorts. While set back from the heart of the Strip, the location offers a quieter, more independent retreat from the crowds. Key highlights include the spacious public areas, easy navigation throughout the resort, and complimentary parking for guests.
I requested a Globalist upgrade, but staff repeatedly claimed all rooms were suites, making it difficult to verify my status. The service felt mechanical and underwhelming. After checking with the dedicated World of Hyatt Globalist lounge near checkout, I confirmed I had been assigned a base-level room with no upgrade. That said, the room offered a great view of the Strip, which was perfect for enjoying the Las Vegas skyline from the comfort of the room.
Breakfast is served in a restaurant in the conference building near the pool, rather than the main casino building, which makes for a quieter atmosphere. While the restaurant was understaffed, the bartender provided excellent, friendly service. The menu is limited, but the food quality is solid, and the Globalist breakfast benefit was clearly explained.
The hotel features a large outdoor pool, though it is closed during the winter. Given the resort-style layout and the size of the pool, it seems well-suited for families visiting in the summer.
As is typical for large Las Vegas resorts, the staff-to-guest ratio feels low, which can lead to occasional service delays.
Unlike many Las Vegas properties, Rio offers free self-parking for guests.
Other fees: While most Las Vegas hotels charge high resort fees to offset lower room rates, Rio waives the resort fee for World of Hyatt Globalist members, which significantly reduces the total cost.

A dedicated World of Hyatt elite member check-in lounge is located to the right of the main entrance. Given that general check-in lines are often long, this lounge is a much more efficient option for elite members.
