This Stay at a Glance

Rio Las Vegas is a large resort-style hotel located west of the Las Vegas Strip. When it opened in 1990, it gained attention for its all-suite concept, which was rare in Las Vegas at the time. The property features expansive grounds and spacious guest rooms, retaining a classic, grand atmosphere distinct from modern luxury resorts. While it is located away from the center of the Strip, this allows for a more independent and quiet stay, away from the crowds. Key advantages include the large public spaces, easy navigation throughout the property, and complimentary parking for guests.

The Rio Hotel & Casino, part of the Hyatt Destination brand, was a memorable stay in Las Vegas, featuring a distinct exterior along with an on-site casino and various amenities.

Room Upgrade Experience

Room on this stayDeluxe Room

I requested a Globalist upgrade, but the staff repeatedly claimed that all rooms were suites, making it difficult to verify if an upgrade was actually possible; the mechanical response was disappointing. Upon checking at the World of Hyatt Globalist dedicated check-in lounge near checkout, I confirmed that the room assigned was a base-level type and no upgrade had been applied. However, the room's view toward the Strip was excellent, and it was sufficient to enjoy the Las Vegas night view and city atmosphere from inside the room.

Breakfast Experience

Breakfast was served at the restaurant in the conference building connected to the pool, rather than the main building with the casino, which made for a relatively pleasant environment. Overall, the staff seemed understaffed, but the friendly service from the bar attendant was impressive. While the menu selection was not extensive, the food quality was satisfactory, and the information regarding Globalist breakfast benefits was clear.

Pools & Facilities Experience

Outdoor pool

The hotel features a large outdoor pool, though it does not operate during the winter season. Given the resort-style layout and the size of the pool, it appears suitable for families visiting during the summer season.

During my New Year's visit in 2026, the outdoor pool at Rio Hotel & Casino was closed for the winter season. I used the fitness center instead, which remained open from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM throughout my stay.

Service Impressions

Service notesAdequateService notes are still being written.

As is typical for large Las Vegas hotels, there were frequent service delays due to the staff-to-guest ratio.

Unlike other hotels in Las Vegas, Rio provides free self-parking for guests.

Other fees: While most Las Vegas hotels charge high resort fees in lieu of lower room rates, Rio waives the resort fee for World of Hyatt Globalist members, which significantly reduces the cost burden.

A dedicated World of Hyatt elite member check-in lounge is operated to the right of the main entrance. Since the general check-in lines are often long, it is more efficient for Hyatt elite members to use the dedicated lounge.
