This Stay at a Glance

Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach is a practical, value-oriented hotel located just a 2-3 minute walk from Waikiki Beach. Compared to the large resorts directly on the beachfront, it offers more reasonable point redemptions and nightly rates, making it a solid choice for travelers prioritizing cost-efficiency and utility in Waikiki. While it lacks the grandeur of a luxury resort, it provides the consistent service and comfortable room environment expected of the Hyatt brand, serving as a reliable base for an active Waikiki itinerary.

Globalist members generally receive meaningful benefits here, including room upgrades and 4:00 PM late checkout. A significant advantage is that resort fees and parking charges are waived on award stays, which is a major plus given Hawaii's high costs. While the elevator wait times can be frustratingly long, the proximity to the beach, surrounding amenities, and the friendly staff help offset this. For travelers who spend more time exploring than in their room, this is one of the most efficient lodging options in Waikiki.

The outdoor pool at Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach is on the smaller side, but it served as a suitable space for a quick dip and some relaxation in the heart of the city.

Room Upgrade Experience

Room on this stayPartial Ocean View

The Partial Ocean View room assigned as a Globalist benefit featured an efficient layout. True to the Hyatt Place brand, the interior prioritizes practicality over luxury, with a separate seating area featuring a sofa and ottoman that was perfect for enjoying the view. The subtle lighting on the headboard and the clean twin-bed configuration were sufficient for resting after a day of travel.

The balcony, equipped with chairs and a table, offered a view of the Waikiki cityscape between high-rises and a glimpse of the blue ocean. While it does not offer the direct oceanfront views of a property like the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, the value is high when considering the point redemption cost. This room type is particularly well-suited for travelers who spend more time exploring outside than in the room.

Breakfast Experience

Complimentary breakfast

Breakfast follows the standard Hyatt Place format, providing a practical morning meal. The buffet area was well-maintained, featuring individually wrapped bagels, fresh fruit, and yogurt. I appreciated the thoughtful touch of signage indicating that almond and soy milk were available upon request alongside the cereal dispensers.

I particularly enjoyed the unlimited access to Hawaiian Paradise coffee. The outdoor terrace is a pleasant spot to enjoy the clear Hawaii weather between the surrounding buildings. While it lacks the elaborate buffet spreads of a luxury resort, the selection is more than adequate for starting the day with fresh, reliable staples.

Pools & Facilities Experience

Outdoor pool

The outdoor pool located on the 3rd floor is small, but it is suitable for a light swim or relaxing in the middle of the city. It is a cozy space enclosed by beige walls with depth markers on the tiles, making it a good spot to stop by after beach activities. During breakfast hours, the poolside area is sometimes accessible through the fitness center.

The lobby level features a business center and a bar area, and the complimentary access to Hawaiian Paradise coffee throughout the stay was convenient. The blue mosaic water feature and calm furniture arrangement in the lobby add to the hotel's relaxed atmosphere. The hotel also provides a free beach towel rental service for guests, which is practical and allows for easy returns at the lobby. The fitness center is equipped with basic cardio machines and dumbbells, which is sufficient for a light workout during your trip.

The fitness center at Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach is compact but well-equipped with essential cardio machines and a set of dumbbells, making it suitable for a quick workout during our stay.
The only downside to this hotel was the elevator situation. There were too few elevators for the number of guests, and they were quite slow, leading to longer-than-expected wait times whenever we headed to or from our room.

Before You Book

Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach is a value-oriented hotel optimized for travelers looking to enjoy Waikiki at a reasonable price point rather than a luxury resort experience. It is located just a 2–3 minute walk from the beach, and the surrounding area is dense with ABC Stores and various restaurants, making it very convenient for walking.

One clear drawback is that the number of elevators is insufficient for the number of guests, and they are slow, which can lead to long wait times during peak season. However, the warm and friendly service from the staff helped offset these inconveniences. While there is no club lounge or large-scale resort facilities, the low point redemption, potential for room upgrades, and the waiver of extra fees make this one of the most practical choices in Waikiki.
