While the property shows its age in certain areas and can become quite crowded during peak holiday periods—often resulting in long elevator waits—the panoramic views of Waikiki Beach from high-floor rooms more than compensate for these inconveniences. The breakfast service at the Regency Club lounge and the signature Coco Mango amenities add to the overall experience. It remains a practical choice for travelers who want to be steps away from the natural beauty of Waikiki.

If this is your first trip to Hawaii, the Ocean Front Suite is worth considering. As a World of Hyatt Globalist, I was assigned a One Bedroom Ocean Front Suite on the 31st floor, which offered a stunning view of Waikiki Beach. Through the balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows, I could fully enjoy Hawaii's scenery, from the early morning sunrise and surfers paddling out to the rainbows that appeared after the rain. The spacious living room and dining area were perfect for enjoying takeout from nearby food trucks while looking at the ocean, and the separate guest powder room was convenient for shared occupancy. While there was no bathtub, the shower area was generous, and the Na Ho'ola Spa's Coco Mango-scented amenities added to the resort's distinct Hawaiian atmosphere.

The Regency Club lounge, accessed via Globalist benefits, was well-suited for relaxing or planning the next day's itinerary after time at Waikiki Beach, thanks to its calm lighting and comfortable seating. Breakfast, light refreshments during the day, and cakes and desserts in the evening were provided. Note that there is a policy requiring food to be consumed only inside the lounge.

No alcoholic beverages are provided during happy hour, but it was a pleasant environment to relax in the cool indoors after outdoor activities.

The outdoor pool faces Waikiki Beach. Since most guests prefer the beach, the pool is relatively quiet and is a good option when you want to enjoy the seaside atmosphere while avoiding salt water.

Unlike typical Regency properties, this hotel features a laundry room with washers and dryers available for guest use, which is a practical amenity given its proximity to the beach.

There is a shared microwave on the same floor as the laundry room, which was convenient for heating up simple meals.

FloWater water refill stations are installed throughout the resort, making it convenient to fill personal tumblers with drinking water. Additionally, a large mural depicting Hawaii's nature on the wall by the escalator leading to the lobby adds to the resort's atmosphere.

The hotel has a lively atmosphere, thanks to its location right in front of Waikiki Beach. However, during peak periods like graduation season or Memorial Day, the hotel can get crowded, leading to longer elevator wait times, and the facility shows some signs of age throughout.

Before You Book

Hyatt Regency Waikiki is divided into two towers: the Diamond Head Tower and the Ewa Tower. High-floor rooms in the Diamond Head Tower are a strong choice for direct, front-facing oceanfront views of Waikiki Beach, while the Ewa Tower is known for its western sunset views. I recommend requesting a high-floor room in the Diamond Head Tower if possible.
